Infra-red is invisible to the eye but is felt as heat. As IR radiation strikes an object, its energy is absorbed and in being absorbed is converted into heat, we use this heat in many ways, but in the application below we look at health and personal care.
As the radiation hits the human skin some energy is reflected but some is absorbed and is converted into heat. The effect of the radiation depends on how deep it penetrates which is dependent on the thickness of the skin. The lower the wavelength the greater the penetration below the Epidermis, into the Corium and Subcutis enlarging the blood flow and lymph which is beneficial to the healing process for treatment of rheumatism, colds, lumbago and to ease muscle pain including sports injuries.
This is best suited to IR lamps with output at around 1000 nm rather than traditional IR lamps at 1400 nm because of the greater penetration.
Victory offers these therapeutic lamps in both clear and ruby with various power outputs.
Make sure you are using Victory Therapeutic IR lamps; they’re not all the same!
